"Metroscopes" is a constantly changing
display that represents Liverpool's relationships with its four twin
cities - Odessa, Dublin, Shanghai and Koln. By searching the internet
for live information about each city and displaying the results on five
circular LED displays in Rope Walks square, it acts as a barometer for
current thinking about these places. The displays function for 24 hours
a day and represent the ebb and flow of data circulating throughout the
world, bringing it to the heart of Liverpool, European Capital of
Culture 2008.
The project was conceived by
artist Clive Gillman, commissioned by Liverpool RopeWalks Partnership
and developed by FACT.
The five displays were
designed, manufactured and installed in 2003 by Technographic Displays.
